Objectives: Maxillary transverse deficiency is a common malocclusion frequently observed in orthodontic clinics. Miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) not only produces greater skeletal expansion but also offers advantages such as simple miniscrew implantation without flap elevation, enhanced patient comfort, and an expanded age range and indications for palatal expansion. However, the fixed connection between the expander and the miniscrews makes the expander difficult to remove, significantly hindering its clinical application.

Acoustic radiation torque of a viscoelastic sphere in a zero-order Mathieu beam.

The exact expressions of the three-dimension acoustic radiation torque (ART) of a viscoelastic sphere arbitrarily positioned in a zero-order Mathieu beam (zMB) are derived in this paper. The effects of the ellipticity parameters, half-cone angles, dimensionless frequency, and particle position on the acoustic radiation torques of the spherical particle are studied. Simulation results show the axial ART is zero for an arbitrarily positioned viscoelastic PE sphere in a zMB, while for the x or y axis ART, it varies significantly with the particle position and beam parameters.

Thickness inversion of thin additive manufacturing Ti-6Al-4 V based on dispersion curve variation with laser-induced ultrasonic.

State Key Laboratory for Manufacture Systems Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China; International Joint Laboratory for Micro/nano Manufacturing and Measurement Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China. Electronic address:

Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) is widely employed in metal additive manufacturing to fabricate components with outstanding mechanical properties and precise dimensions by melting powder layer-by-layer. As an in-line monitoring technique for additive manufacturing (AM), laser ultrasonic testing (LUT) is expected to be effective. During the LPBF process, ultrasonic signals are affected by thickness variations of specimens.

Objective: In the present study, the morphological characteristic of the pterygomaxillary junction (PMJ) was determined radiologically and its effects on the maxillary expansion pattern were investigated by finite element analysis.

Methods: The 3-dimensional morphology of the PMJ was measured separately for each dimension by examining 240 cone beam computed tomography of maxilla. Seven maxilla models with different three-dimensional pterygomaxillary characteristics were modeled, and the effect of the structural characteristic of the PMJ on the maxillary expansion pattern, and the stresses in the resistance regions were evaluated by simulating the surgically assisted maxillary expansion.

Innovation in healthcare is highly supply-driven, leading to underinvestment in less profitable health areas, unmet needs and inefficient use of public resources. This study proposes a framework to structure the identification of health-related patient and societal needs across different health conditions, supporting the evolution towards needs-driven healthcare policy and innovation. The Needs Examination, Evaluation and Dissemination (NEED) assessment framework was based on the results of two systematic literature reviews and stakeholder and expert consultation.
