The production of organic-mineral fertilizers from sewage sludge is one of the ecological options in their management. Though, pharmaceuticals and their derivatives, which accumulate in the sludge, could be a problem due to their impacts on the environment. The utilization of bifunctional ligands, specifically pyridine carboxylic acids, endowed with dual coordination sites, has been instrumental in the assembly of polymer materials. The ambidentate characteristics of these ligands play a crucial role in shaping the structure and framework of cluster-based polymers. In this study, we have synthesized a diverse array of multidimensional copper(I) alkynyl cluster-based polymers (CACPs) by employing four distinct pyridine carboxylic acids - namely, isonicotinic acid (INA), 6-isoquinolinecarboxylic acid (IQL), 4-pyridin-4-yl-benzoic acid (4-PyBA), and 3-pyridin-4-yl-benzoic acid (3-PyBA) - as linking ligands.

N-(sodium 2-hydroxypropylsulfonate) chitosan (HSCS), N-sulfonate chitosan (SCS) and N-isonicotinic sulfonate chitosan (ISCS) were prepared. The structures of the prepared chitosan derivatives were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy and elemental analysis (EA). Antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of these chitosan derivatives were evaluated in vitro.

Frequent detection of terbutaline in wastewater highlights its potential risks to human health associated in the environment. Exposure to terbutaline through contaminated water sources or food chain have adverse effects to human health. This work emphasized on the removal of terbutaline from wastewater using adsorption technology.
