Within the European Union, the use of lidocaine in food-producing animals is restricted due to concerns over human safety. This study compared the clinical effectiveness of procaine, with and without epinephrine, against lidocaine in pain alleviation during thermocautery disbudding in xylazine-sedated calves. The efficacy of local blocks was assessed through needle pricks, and the behavioral reactions to disbudding were scored.

Background: Penile fibropapilloma is a condition caused by bovine papilloma virus and is frequently encountered in young bulls. Penile fibropapillomatosis is thought to be spread through homosexual mounting behaviour. Fibropapillomas of the penis are painful, often bleed and can impede normal intromission.

Introduction: Injecting mixtures of local anesthetics with or without adjuvants is a common practise in regional and particularly obstetric anesthesia to decrease block onset time and/or augment epidural analgesia for cesarean section. While evidence on the efficacy of this practise is equivocal, little is known about its safety in terms of the pharmacologic compatibility of local anesthetics.
Methods: We assessed the grade of crystallization in individual mixtures of seven local anesthetics (bupivacaine, ropivacaine, lidocaine, procaine, chloroprocaine, mepivacaine, prilocaine) with or without four adjuvants (sodium bicarbonate, dexamethasone, clonidine, fentanyl) using a semiquantitative light microscopy scale (ranging from 0 to 5), repeatedly for up to 60 min and performed correlation analysis between grade of crystallization and initial solution pH.

Safe and efficient local anesthetic delivery carriers are crucial for long-term anesthesia and analgesics in clinical treatment. But currently, most of the local anesthetic carriers still have some disadvantages such as low drug-loading capacity, drug leakage, and potential side effects. Here, we report red-emissive carbon dots (Cys-CDs) synthesized by choosing cysteine and citric acid as precursors, which contain a large and intact sp-domain with rich hydrophilic groups around the edge.
