Article Abstract

Light and electron microscopic studies of nervous ganglia of the sinoauricular area of the heart were performed in 7 people dead at the age from 23 to 58 years (44 +/- 6) from not cardiac causes. The ganglia were disposed under the epicardium and had from 1 to 17 neurons as well as bundles of myelinated (MNF) and nonmyelinated nerve fibers (NNF). The ganglia most often had light neurons with a rounded nucleus and a compact nucleolus, with invariable cisterns of the granular endoplasmic reticulum microfilaments, electron-dense bodies, lipofuscin granules and edematous mitochondria. More rare were dark neurons with osmiophilic cytoplasm and nucleus of an irregular shape. Most NNF and MNF in the ganglia had normal ultrastructure. In part of NNF and MNF there were edemas of axis cylinders, fragmentation of neurofilaments and microtubules, sometimes MNF with transverse and longitudinal cleavage of myelin were seen. The significance of influences of the age, intravital pathology and postmortem alterations on the ultrastructure of intracardiac nervous ganglia of man is discussed.

Objectives: Trunk control involves multiple brain regions related to motor control systems. Therefore, patients with central nervous system (CNS) disorders frequently exhibit impaired trunk control, decreasing their activities of daily living (ADL). Although some therapeutic interventions for trunk impairments have been effective, their general effects on CNS disorders remain unclear.

While autonomic dysregulation and repolarization abnormalities are observed in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), their relationship remains unclear. We aimed to measure skin sympathetic nerve activity (SKNA), a novel method to estimate stellate ganglion nerve activity, and investigate its association with electrocardiogram (ECG) alterations after SAH. We recorded a total of 179 SKNA data from SAH patients at three distinct phases and compared them with 20 data from controls.

Whipple's disease, caused by the gram-positive actinomycete , is a rare chronic systemic illness with significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, particularly when the CNS is involved. This case report details a 46-year-old man presenting with a constellation of symptoms including fatigue, hypersomnia, weight loss, bifrontal headaches, abdominal pain, treatment-unresponsive diarrhea, and skin hyperpigmentation. Neurological examination revealed oculomasticatory myorhythmia, and imaging studies showed nodular enhancement of the hypothalamus and basal ganglia, along with retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy.

Left superior cervical ganglia lymph node mimicry and its role in rat ventricular arrhythmias following myocardial infarction.

Acta Physiol (Oxf)

Department of Cardiology, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong Provincial Qianfoshan Hospital, Shandong University, Jinan, China.

Aim: Sympathetic overactivation may lead to severe ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) post-myocardial infarction (MI). The superior cervical ganglion (SCG) is an extracardiac sympathetic ganglion which regulates cardiac autonomic tone. We aimed to investigate the characteristics and functional significance of SCG on neuro-cardiac communication post-MI.

The distribution of the common acupoints of acupuncture-moxibustion for gastrointestinal diseases conforms to the rule of the segmental homology of somatic afferent nerve-visceral nerve circuit at the spinal cord level. Acupuncture-moxibustion regulates the gastrointestinal function through the nerve-endocrine-immune system, and especially depending on the integrity of the structure and function of nervous system. The somatic afferent nerve-visceral nerve circuit plays an important role in the process of acupuncture and moxibustion for regulating the gastrointestinal function.
