At the end of 2019, SARS-CoV-2 emerged and rapidly spread, having a profound negative impact on human health and socioeconomic conditions. In response to this unprecedented global health crisis, significant advancements were made in the mRNA vaccine technology. In this study, we have compared the difference between two SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain (RBD) mRNA-Lipid nanoparticle (LNP) vaccines prepared from two different ionizable cationic lipids: ALC-0315 and MC3.

A statistical approach for systematic identification of transition cells from scRNA-seq data.

Cell Rep Methods

December 2024

Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, USA. Electronic address:

Decoding cellular state transitions is crucial for understanding complex biological processes in development and disease. While recent advancements in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) offer insights into cellular trajectories, existing tools primarily study expressional rather than regulatory state shifts. We present CellTran, a statistical approach utilizing paired-gene expression correlations to detect transition cells from scRNA-seq data without explicitly resolving gene regulatory networks.

[Miller-Fisher/Guillain-Barré overlap syndrome following COVID-19 vaccination].

Rev Med Inst Mex Seguro Soc

May 2024

Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, Hospital General de Zona No. 1, Servicio de Neurología. Tepic, Nayarit, México.

Background: Anti-GQ1B syndrome includes a group of diseases characterized by antibody-mediated polyneuropathy. Guillain Barre syndrome (GBS) and the Miller-Fisher syndrome (MFS) have been related to COVID-19 vaccine application.

Clinic Case: 48-year-old man, with history of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination against COVID-19, 5 days prior to the symptoms, who assisted to the Emergency room with blurred vision and diplopia; adding dysarthria, facial diplegia and left upper limb weakness after 48 hours.

Background: For best efficacy, vaccines must provide long-lasting immunity. To measure longevity, memory from B and T cells are surrogate endpoints for vaccine efficacy. When antibodies are insufficient for protection, the immune response must rely on T cells.

Factors Associated with IgG/IgM Levels after SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination in Patients with Head and Neck Cancer.

Trop Med Infect Dis

October 2024

State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Guangzhou 510060, China.

This study evaluated the factors influencing IgG/IgM antibody levels in 120 patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) following vaccination with inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. Each patient's demographic and clinical data were documented, and serum IgG and IgM antibodies were detected using a commercial magnetic chemiluminescence enzyme immunoassay kit. The results indicated that while all patients had received at least one vaccine dose, 95 tested positive for IgG and 25 were negative.
