Innovative method for Amplatzer device implantation in patients with bronchopleural fistulas.

BMC Pulm Med

April 2021

Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital of Zhejiang University, No. 3 East Qingchun Road, Jianggan District, Hangzhou, 310016, Zhejiang Province, China.

Background: Bronchopleural fistula (BPF) is a relatively rare complication after various types of pulmonary resection. The double-sided mushroom-shaped occluder (Amplatzer device, AD) has been gradually used for BPF blocking due to its reliable blocking effect. We have improved the existing AD implantation methods to facilitate clinical use and named the new approach Sheath-free method (SFM).

Introduction: Malignant central airway obstruction around the main carina often requires placement of Y‑shaped stents. In this study, we aimed to determine the safety of silicone Y stents placed around the main carina in the malignant airway obstruction by examining the long term complications, emergence times and treatment approaches of complications.

Materials And Methods: Between May 2012 and July 2015, 47 silicone Y stents were placed in 46 patients with malignant external compression or mixed type stenosis around the main carina.

The objective of study is to determine the thickness of bronchial walls of clinically diagnosed asthmatic cats using high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) compared to that of healthy cats. The bronchial walls and pulmonary arteries were measured in healthy 16 cats and clinically asthmatic 4 cats. The bronchial walls and pulmonary arteries were measured under general anesthesia with positive pressure inspiration using HRCT.

Background: Lung ultrasound (LUS) has been successfully applied for monitoring aeration in ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and to diagnose and monitor community-acquired pneumonia. However, no scientific evidence is yet available on whether LUS reliably improves the diagnosis of VAP.

Methods: In a multicenter prospective study of 99 patients with suspected VAP, we investigated the diagnostic performance of LUS findings of infection, subpleural consolidation, lobar consolidation, and dynamic arborescent/linear air bronchogram.
