Dirofilariosis caused by Dirofilaria (Nochtiella) repens is recorded sporadically among people in Europe, Asia and Africa. Still a worldwide controversy exist upon human parasite hosting. Herein, the first case of ocular dirofilariosis in Bulgaria caused by gravid female is presented.

Vector-borne diseases represent a significant part of canine infectious pathology posing serious zoonotic potential. Stray dogs are found to be an important health and ecological factor in urban areas. The objectives of the present study were to update the current knowledge on the seroprevalence of Anaplasma phagocytophilum/ Anaplasma platys, Ehrlichia canis, Borrelia burgdorferi and Dirofilaria immitis in stray dogs from Sofia, Bulgaria.

Objectives: In this study, we describe ocular dirofilariasis in Bulgaria.
Materials And Methods: We studied 7 patients with a subconjunctival or periorbital form of Dirofilaria repens infection during 2010-2019. Morphological, serological, and paraclinical diagnostic methods were used.

Autochthonous infections have been found in dogs and other carnivores in most European countries. In the same countries, reports of human dirofilariasis are becoming increasingly prevalent. We present 18 cases of people infected with for a 10-year period traced in our hospital.
