The capacity of myeloperoxidase which is the product of polymorphonuclear leucocytes to induce the lens opacity was studied in young and old rabbits. It was found that the injection of myeloperoxidase solution into anterior chamber of the eye causes the irreversible lens opacification in old rabbits, not in young ones. Light microscopy of the lens section has shown the following alterations: the local thickening of the anterior capsule, disorderly accumulation of epithelial cells, formation of so-called "bladder cells" under the lens epithelium. Changes in experimental eyes are typical for cataract.

Dual atomic nanozymes (DAzymes) are promising for applications in the field of tumor catalytic therapy. Here, integrating with ultrasmall FeC nanoclusters, asymmetric coordination featuring Janus Zn-Fe dual-atom sites with an ON-Fe-Zn-N moiety embedded in a carbon vacancy-engineered hollow nanobox (Janus ZnFe DAs-FeC) was elaborately developed. Theoretical calculation revealed that the synergistic effects of Zn centers acting as both adsorption and active sites, oxygen-heteroatom doping, carbon vacancy, and FeC nanoclusters jointly downshifted the d-band center of Fe 3d orbitals, optimizing the desorption behaviors of intermediates *OH, thereby significantly promoting catalytic activity.

Synergistic therapy combining photothermal therapy (PTT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT) has proven to be a highly effective strategy for cancer treatment.
