It has been well documented that n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) can alleviate inflammation caused by () lipopolysaccharides (LPS), the etiologic agents that causing yellow or white dysentery in young pigs. However, it remains unclear whether the increase in n-3 PUFA availability could enhance the ability of nursery pigs to resist invasion by . LPS.

Introduction: is the etiologic agent of a bacillary dysentery known as shigellosis, which causes millions of infections and thousands of deaths worldwide each year due to 's unique lifestyle within intestinal epithelial cells. Cell adhesion/invasion assays have been extensively used not only to identify targets mediating host-pathogen interaction, but also to evaluate the ability of -specific antibodies to reduce virulence. However, these assays are time-consuming and labor-intensive and fail to assess differences at the single-cell level.

In recent years, the pig industry in Xinjiang, China, has been severely impacted by outbreaks of porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED), despite vaccination efforts. In this study, we investigated the genetic characteristics of currently prevalent porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) strains in the region. We collected 548 samples from animals with suspected PED on large-scale pig farms in Xinjiang.

Shigella, the aetiological agent of human bacillary dysentery, controls the expression of its virulence determinants through an environmentally stimulated cascade of transcriptional activators. VirF is the leading activator and is essential for proper virulence expression. In this work, we report on in vitro and in vivo experiments showing that two autoinducers of the DSF family, XcDSF and BDSF interact with the jelly roll module of VirF causing its inhibition and affecting the expression of the entire virulence system of Shigella, including its ability to invade epithelial cells.
