Background: Small recalcitrant defects of the mandible and maxilla may be secondary to tumor, trauma, infection, and congenital origin. Vascularized bone grafting has been shown to effectively manage these defects; however, donor sites are limited. The vascularized medial femoral condyle (MFC) provides adequate cortical cancellous bone with the option of a skin island, consistent anatomy, and minimal donor site morbidity.

Objective: To introduce a novel 3D-printed prosthetic composite for reconstruction of massive bone defects after resection for bone malignancy of lower extremities. The design concept, surgical technique, and the preliminary outcomes were elaborated.
Methods: Patients with primary malignant tumors of lower extremities requiring tumor resection and reconstruction were recruited between Jun 2015 and Nov 2018.

Background: Reconstruction after excision of the femur and tibia malignancy is a challenging issue for the reconstructive surgeon. The combined use of a vascularized fibular flap and allograft can provide a reliable reconstructive option. This article describes the authors' experience with this technique for the treatment of large-segmental bone defects after intercalary resection of lower extremity malignancy.

The purpose of this study was to examine our experience with this flap for the treatment of recalcitrant nonunions of the extremities. A retrospective chart review was performed on 11 consecutive patients treated with the medial femoral periosteal bone flap from June 2003 to March 2005. Patient demographics, nonunion characteristics, complications, and long-term outcome based on radiographic and clinical parameters were analyzed.

Background: Long-bone allograft reconstruction following tumor extirpation can be complicated by problems such as nonunion at the host-allograft junction, allograft fracture, or allograft infection. Free vascularized bone grafts can be used to address these complications. The purpose of the current study was to examine retrospectively the outcomes and complications following allograft reconstruction salvage with onlay vascularized fibular grafts.
