Postmenopausal women are at a higher risk of developing dyslipidemia and osteoporosis due to estrogen deficiency, necessitating regular vitamin D supplementation and the use of cholesterol inhibitors, respectively, to prevent these conditions. Despite current treatments, alternatives are needed to address both conditions simultaneously. Ergosterol, a precursor of vitamin D, is a fungal sterol converted to brassicasterol by 7-dehydrocholesterol reductase, a cholesterol biosynthesis enzyme that converts 7-dehydrocholesterol (a precursor of vitamin D) into cholesterol.

January 2025

Academy of Integrative Medicine, Dalian Medical University, Dalian, China; Department of Clinical Pharmacology, College of Pharmacy, Dalian Medical University, Dalian, China. Electronic address:

Background: Osteoporosis (OP) is a prevalent global health concern, impacting millions of individuals, especially the elderly. The etiology of senile OP is associated with the imbalance of osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation in the bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). The imbalance of BMSCs differentiation fate will leading to bone loss and lipids accumulation.

Network Pharmacology Combined With Metabolomics Reveals the Mechanism of Yangxuerongjin Pill Against Type 2 Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy in Rats.

Drug Des Devel Ther

January 2025

Beijing Tongrentang Technology Development Co., Ltd. Pharmaceutical Factory, Beijing, 100079, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: This study aims to explore the mechanism of Yangxuerongjin pill (YXRJP) in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) by network pharmacology and metabolomics technology combined with animal experiments, and to provide scientific basis for the treatment of DPN.

Methods: In this study, network pharmacology analysis was applied to identify the active compounds, core targets and signal pathways, which might be responsible for the effect of DPN. The DPN model was established by high-fat diet combined with streptozotocin (STZ) injection, and the rats were given administration for 12 weeks.

The chemical constituents of Dracocephalum tanguticum were investigated using normal-and reverse-phase silica gel column chromatography, RP-HPLC, and other separation techniques, combined with experimental methods such as NMR, UV, IR, MS, and ORD, as well as comparison with reported literature data. From the ethanol extract of D. tanguticum, 10 compounds were isolated and identified: dracotangusion C(1),(1R,4S,5S,10R)-(+)-germacrone-1(10)-4-diepoxide(2), 1β,4β,5β-trihydroxy-7(11),9-germacradien-8-one(3), curcumadione(4), β-sitosterol(5), lilacoside(6), diosmetin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(7), diosmin(8), luteolin-7-O-glucoside(9), and luteolin(10).
