On the ground of the clinical experience gained on thymomas observed during the last decade and controlled by histopathology at the National Cancer Institute of Milan, the authors report and describe the typical morphology of the above neoplasms, which were studied with both the conventional and the most advanced imaging procedures. First of all, the authors point out the common problems of differential diagnosis with other lesions in the anterior mediastinum, with a special emphasis on lymphomas. Attention is also drawn to both the diagnostic and therapeutic value of conventional radiotomographic procedures combined with CT and MRI: in particular, the former can provide an extremely valuable diagnostic support to fine needle biopsy.

Results of radiologic, radiotomographic and CT scan imaging of patients with major aplasias of ear are presented. In the absence of an indication for functional surgery these explorations allow evaluation of the risk of an epithelial inclusion within an undetected anlage of external auditory canal. When functional surgery is indicated results of these investigations allow assessment of pneumatization of petrous bone, possibility of construction of a new external auditory canal, and the internal ear.

Rounded atelectasis (AR) is an unusual type of pulmonary peripheral collapse which may mimic a tumour mass. Seven patients with AR underwent radiological work up by mean of multiple imaging modalities; radiographic and conventional tomographic features were invariably sufficient to make the correct diagnosis. For this reason, more sophisticated or invasive diagnostic procedures are presently not indicated.
