As the authors point out the uncommon occurrence of these fistulas between the calicopyelic cavities with the colon, the duodenum and still more unusually with the stomach and the jejunum, they report the etiological and clinical features found in the published cases. Usually the only solution is a nephrectomy.

A review of the past twenty months of intestinal-urinary diversion with use of the single J urinary diversion stents at Albany Medical Center Hospital and the Albany Veterans Administration Medical Center resulted in no ureteroileal anastomotic fistulas. Thirty-seven stented anastomoses were performed in 19 patients.

Only 27 cases are related in litterature; the authors report 4 new cases and point out the role of intestinal obstruction (principaly anorectal malformations, but also atresia, meconium ileus or Hirschsprung disease). Pathogenesis is unknown, while intestinal urinary fistula is frequently described.
