The assessment of research performance is widely seen as a vital tool in upholding the highest standards of quality, with selection and competition believed to drive progress. Academic institutions need to take critical decisions on hiring and promotion, while facing external pressure by also being subject to research assessment. Here we present an outlook on research assessment for career progression with specific focus on promotion to full professorship, based on 314 policies from 190 academic institutions and 218 policies from 58 government agencies, covering 32 countries in the Global North and 89 countries in the Global South.

Ten coordination compounds, [Cu(L)Cl] (), [Cu(L)NO] (), [Cu(L)Cl] (C3), [Cu(L)NO] (), [Cu(L)Cl] (), [Cu(L)NO] (), [Cu(L)NO] (), [Cu(L)Cl] (), [Cu(L)Cl] (), and [Cu(L)NO] (), containing pyridine derivatives of -methoxyphenyl-thiosemicarbazones were synthesized and characterized. The molecular structure of four compounds was investigated using single crystal X-ray diffraction. Spectral analysis techniques such as FT-IR, H NMR, C NMR, elemental analysis, and molar conductivity were used for all the synthesized compounds.

Estimation of the phenolic content and evaluation of the anti-inflammatory and anti-ulcer activity of leaf and fruit extracts from Morocco.

Nat Prod Res

December 2024

Laboratory of Pharmacology, Neurobiology, Anthropology and Environment. Department of Biology. Faculty of Sciences Semlalia, University Cadi Ayyad, Marrakech, Morocco.

The present study aimed to estimate the phenolic compounds and evaluate the anti-inflammatory and anti-ulcer activity of leaf and fruit extracts in rodents. Phytochemical identification of the extracts was performed using HPLC technique. The anti-inflammatory property of the extracts was studied using three animal models of inflammation: xylene-induced ear swelling in mice, paw edoema and carrageenan-induced air pocketing in rats.

A review on the potential use of bismuth nanoparticles in oral health.

Microb Pathog

January 2025

Department of Medical Laboratory Technics, College of Health and Medical Technology, Alnoor University, Mosul, Iraq. Electronic address:

According to many investigations, persistent oral infections may be caused by oral pathogenic biofilms. Irritation of soft tissues and subsequent bone resorption due to bacterial biofilm contamination of the implant further worsen oral health. Dental problems may be effectively treated using metal nanoparticles (NPs) because they limit the development of many different types of bacteria.

The eleven new copper(II) and nickel(II) coordination compounds [Cu(L)Br] (), [Cu(L)Cl] (), [Cu(L)NO] (), [Ni(L)Cl] (), [Ni(HL)](NO) (), and [Cu(A)(L)]NO, where A is 1,10-phenanthroline (), 2,2'-bipyridine (), 3,4-dimethylpyridine (), 3-methylpyridine (), pyridine () and imidazole () were synthesized with 3-(morpholin-4-yl)propane-2,3-dione 4-allylthiosemicarbazone (). The new thiosemicarbazone was characterized by NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. All the coordination compounds were characterized by elemental analysis and FTIR spectroscopy.
