Utilization of structure-specific lignin extracted from coconut fiber via deep eutectic solvents to enhance the functional properties of PVA nanocomposite films.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

College of Food Science and Nutritional Engineering, China Agricultural University, Beijing 100083, China; National Engineering Research Center for Fruit and Vegetable Processing, Key Lab of Fruit and Vegetable Processing, Ministry of Agriculture, Beijing, China.

This study utilized deep eutectic solvents (DES) based on choline chloride/lactic acid (ChCl/LA) to deconstruct coconut fibers. The effects of DES with different temperatures and molar ratios on the yield of lignin, recovery rate of residues, structural changes in lignin and solid residues, and saccharification efficiency were investigated. The results showed that acidic DES treatment effectively deconstructed the coconut fibers, resulting in a high lignin yield of 68.

Lung Clearance Index: A Sensitive Measure of Airway Function Improvement in Adolescents After Weight Loss from Bariatric Surgery.

Respir Med

January 2025

Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel; Clalit Health Services, Dan Petah Tikva District, Petah Tikva, Israel. Electronic address:

Background: Morbid obesity in adolescents impacts respiratory function, often leading to reduced lung volume and obstructive ventilatory defects. However, standard spirometric values frequently remain within normal ranges.

Objectives: We hypothesized that Lung Clearance Index (LCI) is a more sensitive marker for detecting airway dysfunction in adolescents with morbid obesity than conventional lung function tests.

Exposure to nano-polystyrene during pregnancy leads to Alzheimer's disease-related pathological changes in adult offspring.

Ecotoxicol Environ Saf

January 2025

Department of Occupational Medicine and Environmental Toxicology, Nantong Key Laboratory of Environmental Toxicology, School of Public Health, Nantong University, Nantong 226019, China. Electronic address:

Nanoplastics are common environmental pollutants. As of now, research has yet to explore how exposure to nanomaterials during gestation might influence the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD) in offspring. Throughout the research, we assessed the AD pathology in adult offspring of mice prenatal 80 nm polystyrene nanoparticles (PS-NPs) exposure.

In vivo imaging markers of glymphatic dysfunction in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Analysis of ALPS index and choroid plexus volume.

J Neurol Sci

January 2025

Department of Neurology, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Asan Medical Center, Seoul, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Background: The glymphatic system, essential for brain waste clearance, has been implicated in neurodegenerative diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Emerging imaging markers, such as the analysis along the perivascular space (ALPS) index and choroid plexus volume (CPV), may provide insights into glymphatic function, but their relevance to ALS remains unclear.

Objective: To assess glymphatic dysfunction in ALS patients using the ALPS index and CPV.
