Report of a prostate abscess mistakenly diagnosed as benign prostatic hyperplasia.

J Surg Case Rep

January 2025

Department of Urology, The Second Hospital of Longyan, No. 8, Shuangyang West Road, Beicheng, Longyan, Fujian 364000, China.

Given the intricacy involved in diagnosing prostatic abscess and the associated risk of severe complications, we present a case involving a 72-year-old male patient initially suspected of urinary retention due to benign prostatic enlargement, only to reveal multiple prostatic abscesses during surgical intervention. The objective is to raise awareness among clinicians regarding the potential presence of latent prostatic abscess and to prevent the occurrence of serious complications. Timely implementation of aggressive antimicrobial therapy and surgical drainage has been shown to significantly enhance patient prognosis and mitigate the risk of serious complications.

Feasibility of detecting non-small cell lung cancer using exhaled breath condensate metabolomics.

J Breath Res

January 2025

School of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ocean University of China, 5 Yushan Rd, Qingdao, Shandong, 266003, CHINA.

Lung cancer is one of the most common malignancy in the world, and early detection of lung cancer remains a challenge. The exhaled breath condensate (EBC) from lung and trachea can be collected totally noninvasively. In this study, our aim is to identify differential metabolites between non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and control EBC samples and discriminate NSCLC group from control group by orthogonal projections to latent structures-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) models.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a herpesvirus capable of establishing lifelong latent infections, leading to a wide spectrum of diseases. It can affect multiple organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, typically through lymphoproliferative syndromes or gastric cancer, while acute gastrointestinal disease is rare and poorly understood. Two cases of EBV-induced acute colitis in kidney transplant recipients were described.

Case Presentation: We present a clinical report of a lateral cervical cyst surgical excision where histopathological examination has revealed features of a branchial cleft cyst harboring a papillary thyroid carcinoma.

Objective: To identify latent clusters among urological patients by examining hospitalisation rate trajectories and their association with risk factors and outcome quality indicators.

Materials And Methods: Victorian Admitted Episodes Dataset, containing information on all hospital admissions in Victoria from 2009 to 2019. The top twenty ICD-10 primary diagnosis codes in urology were used to select patients (n = 98,782) who were included in the study.
