Background: In patients with rotator cuff tears (RCTs), there is a lack of evidence regarding the impact of the timeliness of rotator cuff repair (RCR) surgery on treatment outcomes and overall healthcare burden. This study aimed to understand the impact of early vs. delayed RCR on real-world healthcare costs and resource use (HCRU) in Japan.

Obesity due to excessive body fat accumulation remains a global problem. Patients with obesity have high cortisol levels, and its dysregulation is caused by increased 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11β-HSD1) levels. The effects and mechanism of J2H-1702, an 11β-HSD1 inhibitor, on nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) were explored.

We report the case of a 78-year-old female patient who received palliative immunotherapy with pembrolizumab and lenvatinib as a treatment of pulmonary and osseous metastatic endometrial carcinoma. Under this therapy, the patient developed dysphagia, thyroiditis with hypothyroidism, myositis, and myocarditis, which required, due to third-degree AV block, the installation of a pacemaker. The patient received high-dose cortisone therapy, a thyroid hormone substitution, and pyridostigmine for symptom control.

Grape seed procyanidin extract (GSE) is widely used to promote cardiovascular health and has purported anti-inflammatory properties. Chronic inflammation in the lungs caused by environmental toxins such as tobacco smoking plays a pivotal role in lung cancer development. In a modified phase I lung cancer chemoprevention study conducted in heavy active and former smokers using leucoselect phytosome (LP), a standardized grape seed procyanidin extract complexed with soy phospholipids to enhance bioavailability, three months of LP treatment favorably modulated a variety of surrogate endpoint biomarkers, including markers of cell proliferation.

Introduction: Whether double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) is effective in the patients who do not response to the initial immunotherapy is uncertain. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of DFPP in the treatment of patients who had no improvement after initial immunotherapy (steroids and/or immunoglobulin (IVIG)), and moreover, to investigate the factors associated with the efficacy of DFPP.
Methods: From January 1st, 2014, to December 30th,2018, a total of 26 patients who were diagnosed autoimmune encephalitis (AE) and were received the treatment of DFPP after unsuccessful or incomplete recovery from their early immune therapy (including intravenous high-dose cortisone, IVIG and or immunosuppressant) for at least 21 days were investigated.
