Scoping review of initiation criteria for inhaled nitric oxide in preterm infants (born <34 weeks) after 7 days of age.

BMJ Open

December 2024

Research and Development Center for New Medical Frontiers, Department of Advanced Medicine, Division of Neonatal Intensive Care Medicine, Kitasato University School of Medicine, Sagamihara, Kanagawa, Japan.

Objectives: Inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) is a known treatment for pulmonary hypertension (PH) associated with bronchopulmonary dysplasia in preterm infants after 7 days of age (postacute phase). However, a consensus regarding the optimal criteria for initiating iNO therapy in this population in the postacute phase is currently lacking. This study, therefore, aimed to identify the criteria for initiating iNO therapy, alongside the associated clinical and echocardiographic findings, in this population.

Conventional solid/liquid electrochemical interfaces typically encounter challenges with impeded mass transport for poor electrochemical quantification due to the intricate pathways of reactants from the bulk solution. To address this issue, this work reports an innovative approach integrating a target-activated DNA framework nanomachine with electrochemically driven metal-organic framework (MOF) conversion for self-sacrificial biosensing. The presence of the target biomarker serotonin initiates the DNA framework nanomachine by an entropy-driven circuit to form a cross-linked nanostructure and subsequently release the Fe-MOF probe.

Babassu (Atallea sp.), a native palm tree from South America's Amazon produces bio-oil and biochar with significant potential for industrial applications. Babassu oil as a bio-based plasticizer is reported here for the first time to replace petrochemical alternatives in the production of conductive filaments for additive manufacturing purposes.

By targeting the essential viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRP), nucleoside analogs (NAs) have exhibited great potential in antiviral therapy for RNA virus-related diseases. However, most ribose-modified NAs do not present broad-spectrum features, likely due to differences in ribose-RdRP interactions across virus families. Here, we show that HNC-1664, an adenosine analog with modifications both in ribose and base, has broad-spectrum antiviral activity against positive-strand coronaviruses and negative-strand arenaviruses.

Point-of-care testing (POCT) involves administering rapid on-site analysis to provide fast biochemical testing results. POCT reduces delays in clinical decision-making and eliminates the need to transport and prepare clinical samples for immediate diagnosis or clinical intervention by healthcare professionals. Herein, a novel methodology integrating thin-layer chromatography-based two-dimensional separation with miniature mass spectrometry was developed for rapid on-site clinical analysis.
