Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrinopathy among women in the reproductive age group. PCOS is defined by the Rotterdam criteria, which include hyperandrogenism, oligo-anovulation, and polycystic ovaries on ultrasound. The common symptoms are irregular or absent periods, acne, hirsutism, and alopecia androgenica.

The wide variation in practice in the treatment of PCOS is a direct consequence of the lack of sufficient evidence on alternative treatment strategies, as well as a poor understanding of the disorder itself. The aim of our systematic review was to assess the therapeutic advantages and adverse effects of metformin (MET), a standard treatment modality, with myoinositol (MI), a recent substitute that may be used alone or in combination with other remedies to treat PCOS.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study using the top five Google Trends search terms in English associated with PCOS, including "symptoms," "treatment," "test," "pregnancy," and "causes.
