Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder, and critically ill patients with T2DM in intensive care unit (ICU) have an increased risk of mortality. In this study, we investigated the relationship between nine inflammatory indicators and prognosis in critically ill patients with T2DM to provide a clinical reference for assessing the prognosis of patients admitted to the ICU. Critically ill patients with T2DM were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV (MIMIC-IV) database and divided into training and testing sets (7:3 ratio).

This study assessed the proportion of secondary cardiovascular prevention patients who achieved low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol targets as per the 2019 ESC/EAS Dyslipidemia Guidelines. We also evaluated whether lipid-lowering therapies (LLTs) were adjusted in patients not meeting targets and analyzed the likelihood of these modifications achieving recommended levels. A multicenter, cross-sectional observational study retrospectively reviewed medical records of 1909 outpatients in 9 Italian cardiac rehabilitation/secondary prevention clinics from January 2023 to June 2024.

Background: Inflammation markers in the blood may indicate a higher risk of unstable atherosclerosis. Selectins, a group of transmembrane glycoproteins, contribute to inflammation by helping certain blood cells bind to the endothelium.
Methods: The study included 100 patients with stable early-onset coronary artery disease (CAD), 75 men (aged 50-54) and 25 women (aged 55-64).

The global incidence of atrial fibrillation is on the rise. Atrial fibrillation, a complex disease, heightens the likelihood of heart failure, stroke, and mortality, necessitating careful attention. Controlling heart rate and rhythm, addressing risk factors, and preventing strokes are fundamental in treating atrial fibrillation.

The trained heart adapts through geometric changes influenced by concentric and eccentric hypertrophy, depending on the predominance of the isometric or dynamic components of the exercise performed. Additionally, alterations in heart rhythm may occur due to increased vagal system activity. Cardiological evaluation with an electrocardiogram (ECG) aims to identify cardiac conditions that could temporarily or permanently disqualify an athlete from competition.
