The mobility of tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) in saturated aquifers is possibly affected by the presence of biosurfactants, which are widespread in the aquatic/soil environments. This study investigated the mobility characteristics of various tetracyclines-specifically tetracycline (TC), oxytetracycline (OTC), and chlortetracycline (CTC)-within quartz sand columns in the presence of rhamnolipid, a common biosurfactant. Exogenous rhamnolipid significantly inhibited the transport of the three TCs over the pH range of 5.

Carboxymethyl wood powder-imprinted membranes (CMSM-MIPs) were prepared by using wet spinning technology and molecular-imprinting technology for the selective removal of tetracycline from wastewater. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy characterizations demonstrate that CMSM-MIPs retain the membranous structure of Carboxymethyl wood powder membranes, successfully encapsulate thin layers of imprinted polymers on the membrane surface, and exhibit excellent thermal stability. The adsorption results showed that CMSM-MIPs had the highest selective adsorption capacity for tetracycline, which was 253.

Antibiotic contamination has become an increasingly important environmental problem as a potentially hazardous emergent and recalcitrant pollutant that poses threats to human health. In this study, manganese peroxidase displayed on the outer membrane of Escherichia coli as a whole-cell biocatalyst (E. coli MnP) was expected to degrade antibiotics.

Abundant residues of tetracyclines in animal manures and manure-derived organic fertilizers can pose a substantial risk to environments. However, our knowledge on the residual levels and potential risk of tetracyclines and their transformation products (TPs) in manure and manure-derived organic fertilizers produced by different composting treatments is still limited. Herein, the occurrence and distribution of four veterinary tetracyclines (tetracycline, oxytetracycline, chlortetracycline, and doxycycline) and ten of their TPs were investigated in paired samples of fresh manure and manure-derived organic fertilizers.

The concern over antibiotic pollution from animal husbandry has significantly increased over recent years. However, few studies on output and environmental risk of veterinary antibiotics (VAs) throughout different exposure matrices from small-scale livestock farms (SSLFs) have been explored. This study explored the output and environmental risk of three classes of VAs (sulfonamides (SAs), tetracyclines (TCs), fluoroquinolones (FQs)) in three different types of environmental media (manure, soil, and plants/vegetables) derived from four livestock feedlots in the Hexi Corridor of Northwest China.
