Graph convolution network-based eeg signal analysis: a review.

Med Biol Eng Comput

January 2025

School of Control Science and Engineering, Tiangong University, Tianjin, 300387, China.

With the advancement of artificial intelligence technology, more and more effective methods are being used to identify and classify Electroencephalography (EEG) signals to address challenges in healthcare and brain-computer interface fields. The applications and major achievements of Graph Convolution Network (GCN) techniques in EEG signal analysis are reviewed in this paper. Through an exhaustive search of the published literature, a module-by-module discussion is carried out for the first time to address the current research status of GCN.

Mining microbial and metabolic dark matter in extreme environments: a roadmap for harnessing the power of multi-omics data.

State Key Laboratory of Biocontrol, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Plant Stress Biology and Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhuhai), School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, 510275, PR China.

Extreme environments such as hyperarid, hypersaline, hyperthermal environments, and the deep sea harbor diverse microbial communities, which are specially adapted to extreme conditions and are known as extremophiles. These extremophilic organisms have developed unique survival strategies, making them ideal models for studying microbial diversity, evolution, and adaptation to adversity. They also play critical roles in biogeochemical cycles.

High burden of abnormal cervical smears in South African primary health care: health programmes implications.

Health Promot Int

January 2025

School of Health Systems and Public Health, University of Pretoria, HW Snyman Building, Bophelo Road, Pretoria 0084, South Africa.

Cervical cancer is the second most common malignancy among South African women and the load of abnormal cervical smears has clinical, programmatic and policy implications. This cross-sectional study of women who presented for cervical cancer screening aimed to determine the prevalence of abnormal cervical smears and associated factors in primary health care (PHC) facilities in Gauteng-the most densely populated province in South Africa. A questionnaire collected data on socio-demography, tobacco use, sexual behaviours, HIV status, past treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STI) and cervical cancer screening in the past 10 years.

Novel index for the evaluation of wound healing following erupted tooth extraction.

Minerva Dent Oral Sci

January 2025

Department of Surgical, Medical, Molecular and Critical Area Pathology, University Hospital of Pisa, University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy.

Background: Understanding healing of the alveolar process is crucial for immediate implant, alveolar ridge preservation and guided bone regeneration procedures, and to evaluate it several different scales have been proposed; however, all have different characteristics and seem to miss a standardization allowing for an objective and dichotomous evaluation of the different aspects of wound healing. The objective of the present study is to propose and apply, in real clinical scenarios, a novel index for the objective evaluation of wound healing following erupted tooth extraction.

Methods: Healthy patients in need of a single tooth extraction were enrolled and re-examined at 7, 14 and 21 days after the extraction using the novel index proposed.

BACKGROUND: Status epilepticus is an emergency, and applying electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring is an important part of diagnosing and treating seizure. The use of rapidly applied limited array continuous EEG (rapid EEG) has become technologically feasible in recent years. Nurse-led protocols using rapid EEG as a point-of-care monitor are increasingly being adopted.
