Thyroid cancer, one of the most common endocrine tumors, generally has a favorable prognosis but remains a significant medical and societal concern due to its high incidence. Early diagnosis and treatment of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) significantly affect long-term outcomes, requiring the selection and application of appropriate initial treatments to improve prognosis and quality of life. Recent advances in technology and health information systems have enhanced our understanding of the molecular genetics of thyroid cancer, facilitating the identification of aggressive subgroups and enabling the accumulation of research on risk factors through big data.

Despite great advancements in the discovery of genetic variants underlying inborn errors of immunity, functional assessment of the immunological profile of patients in routine clinical practice remains challenging. The lymphocyte proliferation assay using H-thymidine incorporation has been the gold standard for decades for functional evaluation of T cells in the clinical laboratory, however, recently developed flow cytometric methods allowing for single cell analysis provide non-radioactive alternatives. Understanding the technical and analytical challenges of test development, validation and maintenance is essential for correct interpretation and test utilization, to assure appropriate and timely patient care.

Radon (Rn) is a radioactive gas with well-documented harmful effects; the World Health Organization has confirmed it as a cancerogenic for humans. These detrimental effects have prompted Europe to establish national reference levels to protect the exposed population. This is reflected in European directive 59/2013/EURATOM, which has been transposed into the national regulations of EU Member States.

The radioactive isotope of hydrogen, known as tritium (H), is very often used as a dating tool in hydrogeological studies, since it enters the water cycle as part of the water molecule through precipitation. However, the assessment of groundwater transit times and recharge often requires knowing the local historical records of tritium levels in precipitation during the previous seven decades, or the tritium in precipitation (TIP) time series. Here, we compiled all tritium records in precipitation in Greece, with the majority of stations showing sporadic measurements, with the aim of reconstructing a TIP for groundwater dating purposes.

This study simulated the dispersion of Cs in the North Pacific using a Lagrangian particle model, incorporating basin-wide atmospheric deposition and direct release from the Fukushima accident. Three experiments examined the impact of vertical diffusion and velocity on dispersion behavior. EXP01 and EXP02 assumed zero vertical velocity with different vertical diffusion coefficients (1 × 10 and 2 × 10 m/s, respectively), while EXP03 used a 3-day average vertical velocity and the same diffusion coefficient as EXP01.
