Objective: Breast cancer (BC) is the second most prevalent cancer worldwide. Estrogen has been increasingly recognized as a major contributor to the development of BC, playing a more critical role than previously understood. Estrogen derived nucleic acid and protein adducts have been shown to play significant roles in BC development and progression.

Article Synopsis
  • Aspergillus-specific antibodies are used to diagnose allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) and chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA), but tests for these were not commonly used in Japan.
  • A study evaluated 64 patients with suspected ABPA and CPA using two different enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) to measure serum Aspergillus IgG levels.
  • Results showed that both the Bordier and Bio-Rad kits had high sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing CPA and ABPA, making them good alternatives to the discontinued precipitin test in clinical settings in Japan.

Identification of fungi causing humidifier lung: 2 rare cases and a review of the literature.

Asia Pac Allergy

October 2022

Division of Clinical Research, Medical Mycology Research Center, Chiba University, Chiba, Japan.

Background: Humidifier lung (HL) is a hypersensitivity pneumonitis resulting from exposure to humidifiers, with fungi from the humidifier as one of the etiologic agents. However, identification of the fungal species responsible for each case can be challenging because of difficulties in culturing fungi, their accurate identification, and interpreting the results of specific serum IgG testing.

Objective: To clarify the best way to determine the causative fungal species of each HL case.

Depression linked to higher antibodies production against estrogenized insulin in type 1 diabetes.

Int Immunopharmacol

September 2020

Department of Chemistry, College of Sciences, University of Hail, Hail 2440, Saudi Arabia; Molecular Diagnostic and Personalised Therapeutics Unit, University of Hail, Hail 2440, Saudi Arabia.

Depression has been commonly associated with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and insulin covalently modified with catecholestrogens (CEs) was found in serum of these T1D patients. This study aimed to know whether depression link to higher antibodies against estrogenized insulin in T1D. ELISA (direct binding and competition) and quantitative precipitin titration were used to detect antibodies and their affinities against estrogenized insulin in the serum of 66 depressed T1D (DT1D) patients (out of 110 T1D) and 41 control subjects.
