Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a destructive autoimmune disease that seriously affects human health. Due to the lack of a cure for RA, a good prognosis largely depends on early diagnosis and effective treatment monitoring of RA. Therefore, the development of fluorescent probes capable of real-time detection of RA is of great significance.

Alkaptonuria (AKU) is a rare autosomal-recessive disease which is characterized through black urine and ochronosis. It is caused by deficiency of the enzyme Homogentisate 1,2-dioxygenase in the Phenylalanine/Tyrosine degradation pathway which leads to the accumulation of Homogentisic acid (HGA). Urine was provided by AKU patients and healthy controls.

Stepwise Lighting Up Gold(I)-Thiolate Complexes from AIE Nanoaggregates to AIEE Nanoprobes with a ZIF-8 Shell for Glucose Biosensing.

Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) or aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) has endowed gold species with responsive fluorescent properties, favoring their potential applications in sensing, imaging, and therapy. However, it remains an interesting challenge to fabricate fluorophores with both AIE and AIEE effects. Herein, we presented highly luminescent Au(I) thiolate nanocomplex-based biosensors with Zn induced-AIE and zeolite imidazolate framework (ZIF-8) induced-AIEE effects.

Background: Proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis is the treatment of choice for patients with ulcerative colitis with medical refractory disease or dysplasia. The aim of this research was to describe the evolution of ileal pouch-anal anastomosis surgery and surgical outcomes over a three-decade interval in a high-volume referral centre.

Methods: All consecutive patients undergoing ileal pouch-anal anastomosis for ulcerative colitis between 1990 and 2022 at the University Hospitals of Leuven were retrospectively included.
