Critically ill patients that require kidney replacement therapy (KRT) are among the most ill and complex patients routinely encountered in the intensive care unit (ICU). Continuous KRT (CKRT) is used across many ICUs as the therapy of choice for hemodynamically unstable patients with kidney failure. Though existing trials have not shown superior survival or kidney recovery with CKRT relative to intermittent KRT, CKRT has largely become the standard of care in developed nations for the treatment of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with shock, acute brain injury, acute liver failure, and other forms of critical illness.

Background: Pulmonary involvement of Non-Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (PNLCH) is a rare cause of interstitial pulmonary disease in people and are classified as either Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) or Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD). In veterinary medicine, feline pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis (PLCH) has been identified as an infiltrative histiocytic disorder with an insidious onset of progressive respiratory distress and is non-responsiveness to empiric therapies. Unfortunately, subsequent death either from respiratory failure or humane euthanasia are the reported outcomes in all reported cases.

Acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) is a rare metabolic disorder characterized by acute attacks often triggered by porphyrinogenic drugs and a low-glucose diet. According to recent findings, chronic symptoms persist in AIP patients. To avoid the symptoms, patients often adopt preventive strategies such as increasing glucose intake, suggesting that nutrition is a crucial aspect of disease management.

Background: Continuous and wireless vital sign (VS) monitoring on hospital wards is superior to intermittent VS monitoring at detecting VS abnormalities; however, the impact on clinical outcomes remains to be confirmed. A recent propensity-matched study of primary surgical patients found decreased odds of intensive care unit (ICU) admission and mortality in patients receiving continuous monitoring. Primary surgical patients are inherently different from their medical counterparts who typically have high morbidity, including frailty.

We describe a case of lateral medullary infarction (LMI) presenting with both body lateropulsion (BL) and urinary retention (UR). A 29-year-old Filipino male with a history of untreated hypertension, dyslipidemia, hyperuricemia, and obesity presented with acute onset of rotatory vertigo, gait disturbance, and left-sided sensory loss. Initial examination revealed horizontal nystagmus to the left, right-sided facial sensory loss, and left-sided limb sensory loss, without cranial nerve deficits or UR.
