BAMLET administration via drinking water inhibits intestinal tumor development and promotes long-term health.

Sci Rep

Though new targeted therapies for colorectal cancer, which progresses from local intestinal tumors to metastatic disease, are being developed, tumor specificity remains an important problem, and side effects a major concern. Here, we show that the protein-fatty acid complex BAMLET (bovine alpha-lactalbumin made lethal to tumor cells) can act as a peroral treatment for colorectal cancer. Apc mice, which carry mutations relevant to hereditary and sporadic human colorectal cancer, that received BAMLET in the drinking water showed long-term protection against tumor development and decreased expression of tumor growth-, migration-, metastasis- and angiogenesis-related genes.

Article Synopsis
  • Fungal infections, often mistaken for conditions like eczema or psoriasis, can be difficult to identify and might be improperly treated with topical corticosteroids, leading to a condition called tinea incognita.
  • A 54-year-old man experienced a painful rash in the genitoinguinal area that was initially treated unsuccessfully with various topical antifungals and antibiotics.
  • Ultimately diagnosed with Majocchi's granuloma after thorough examination and histopathology, the patient successfully improved with a 16-week course of itraconazole, highlighting the need for awareness of such infections among non-specialist doctors.

We present a case of infection in a man in his 60s with a history of sarcoidosis, treated for 24 years with systemic corticosteroids and later methotrexate as monotherapy. He presented with low grade fever, dyspnoea and right-sided thoracic pain and was admitted due to a treatment-refractory infection. After a prolonged period of symptoms and diagnostics, acid-fast bacilli were demonstrated in pleural fluid and PCR revealed The patient was treated with intravenous amikacin, peroral azithromycin, rifampicin and ethambutol for a total of 18 months, with a good clinical and radiological treatment response.

Per-oral endoscopic cricopharyngotomy (c-POEM) is a treatment for cricopharyngeal dysfunction, specifically cricopharyngeal bars (CPB). C-POEM differs from other endoscopic surgical procedures, such as per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), gastric per-oral endoscopic myotomy (g-POEM), and Zenker per-oral endoscopic myotomy (z-POEM). We report three patients who underwent c-POEM for CPB, their clinical course, and outcomes.

Background: Rocuronium, a nondepolarizing muscle relaxant, is usually administered during general anesthesia to facilitate endotracheal intubation and keep patients immobile during the surgery. Sugammadex, the selective reversal agent of rocuronium, fully reverses the neuromuscular blockade (NMB) at the end of surgery. Most reports show that sugammadex rapidly achieves a ratio of train-of-four (TOF), a quantitative method of neuromuscular monitoring, of 0.
