Background And Aims: The adipocyte-derived adiponectin (APN) has potent insulin-sensitizing and anti-inflammatory properties. The adipose tissue is known to be the main source for APN in the circulation, but sites and mechanisms which remove APN from blood are still unknown in humans.
Methods And Results: We reviewed APN data obtained in previous studies in which the inter-organ exchange of amino acids and cytokines was measured in our laboratory.

Background: V617F-mutated myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) exhibit abnormal proliferation of bone marrow progenitors and increased risk of thrombosis, specifically in splanchnic veins (SVT). The contribution of the endothelium to the development of the prothrombotic phenotype was explored.
Material And Methods: Plasma and serum samples from V617F MPN patients with (n=26) or without (n=7) thrombotic debut and different treatments, were obtained (n=33).

Splanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT), which is particularly prevalent in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), has a multifactorial pathomechanism involving the anticoagulant protein C (PC) pathway. To better characterize the hypercoagulable state in SVT we assessed its key enzymes thrombin and activated PC (APC). The study population included 73 patients with SVT, thereof 36 MPN+, confirmed by bone marrow biopsy, 37 MPN-, and 30 healthy controls.

Material And Methods: The study was performed on six male pigs (38.4 ± 1.

Objective: Monitoring cerebral and renal near-infrared spectroscopy for regional venous oxygenation is a common practice in the postoperative care of neonates recovering from surgery for CHD. In this study, we aimed to test the feasibility of using this technology for monitoring changes in splanchnic perfusion during feeds in infants recovering from cardiac surgery.
Methods: We monitored renal and splanchnic near-infrared spectroscopy in 29 neonates once recovered from the critical postoperative state and tolerating full enteral nutrition.
