Water scarcity is an ecological issue affecting over 10% of Europe. It is intensified by rising temperatures, leading to greater evaporation and reduced precipitation. Agriculture has been confirmed as the sector accounting for the highest water consumption globally, and it faces significant challenges relating to drought, impacting crop yields and food security.

Peach ripening accompanying by processing browning exacerbated has not been clarified in perspective of pectin fractions structural variation. This study investigated pectin fractions of water-soluble (WSP), trans-cyclohexane-1,2-diaminetetraacetic acid-soluble (CSP) and sodium carbonate-soluble (NSP) pectin in peach with different ripening times (24, 48, 72 h) and pretreatments (cold shock, CaCl2, the combination) effect on pulp browning in processing. Results showed that extended ripening time increases browning index and rate, along with increased reactive oxygen species levels, polyphenol oxidase and pectinase activities, and the structural of the pectin fractions.

This study focuses on three different regions of moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis): an inner layer (IB), middle layer (MB), and outer layer (OB), to comprehensively characterize the structural features, chemical composition (ash, extractives and lignin contents), and the lignin monomeric composition as determined by analytical pyrolysis. The results show that bamboo presents a gradient structure. From the IB to OB, the vascular bundle density and fiber sheath ratio increase, the porosity decreases (from 45.

Understanding the spatiotemporal processes governing Cd behavior at the soil-solution-root interface is crucial for developing effective remediation strategies. This study examined the processes of chemical remediation in Cd-contaminated paddy soil using rhizotrons over the entire rice growth period. One-dimensional profile sampling with a 10 cm resolution revealed that during the initial flooding, paddy soil was strongly stimulated, followed by stabilization of porewater properties.

Organic matter (OM) significantly impacts the environmental behavior of sulfur and heavy metals. In this study, the effects of OM on the migration and transformation of sulfur and heavy metals in mariculture sediments were investigated. The results indicated that baiting had a strong impact on the accumulation of acid volatile sulfur (AVS) (P < 0.
