Objectives: Iatrogenic laryngotracheal stenosis (iLTS) is the pathological narrowing of the glottis, subglottis, and/or trachea due to scar tissue. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are over 8 times more likely to develop iLTS and represent 26% to 53% of all iLTS patients. In this investigation, we compared iLTS scar-derived fibroblasts in patients with and without T2DM.

The signal transducer and activator of transcription 3, STAT3, transfers cellular signals from the plasma membrane to the nucleus, acting as a signaling molecule and a transcription factor. Reports proposed an additional non-canonical role of STAT3 that could regulate the activity of complexes I and II of the electron transport chain and the opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (PTP) after ischemia-reperfusion in various cell types. The native expression of STAT3 in heart mitochondria, together with a direct versus an indirect transcriptional role in mitochondrial functions, have been recently questioned.

Diosgenin is a steroidal saponin extract from numerous plants, including Solanum and Dioscorea species, and has been reported to possess neuroprotective activity. However, the role of diosgenin in neuropathic pain remains unclear. The present study examined the effects of diosgenin on allodynia and the levels of inflammatory mediators in rats following neuropathic pain evoked by chronic constriction injury (CCI).

Although cardiac mitochondrial dysfunction is involved in the pathophysiology of iron-overload cardiomyopathy, the precise mechanisms of iron-induced mitochondrial dysfunction, and the roles of the iron chelator deferiprone and the T-type calcium channel blocker efonidipine on cardiac mitochondrial biogenesis in thalassemic mice are still unknown. β-thalassemic (HT) mice were fed with a normal diet (ND) or a high iron-diet (FE) for 90 days. Then, the FE-fed mice were treated with deferiprone (75mg/kg/day) or efonidipine (4mg/kg/day) for 30 days.
