Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) are the end result of the irreversible, non-enzymatic glycation of proteins by reducing sugars. These chemical modifications accumulate with age and have been associated with various age-related and diabetic complications. AGEs predominantly accumulate on proteins with slow turnover rates, of which collagen is a prime example.

Glycosylation is an effective means to alter the structure and properties of plant compounds, influencing the pharmacological activity of natural products (NPs) to obtain highly active NPs. In nature, glucosides are the most widely distributed, while other glycosides such as xylosides are less common and present in lower quantities. This is due to the scarcity of xylosyltransferases with substrate promiscuity in nature, and the modification of their catalytic function is also quite challenging.

Accurate identification and quantification of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) can help elucidate its function in gene expression and disease pathogenesis. Current 5hmC analysis methods still present challenges, especially for clinical applications, such as having a risk of false-positive results and a lack of sufficient sensitivity. Herein, a 5hmC quantification method for fragment-specific DNA sequences with extreme specificity, high sensitivity, and clinical applicability was established using a quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR)-based workflow through the combination of enzymatic digestion and biological deamination strategy (EDD-5hmC assay).

Along with the quick advancements in enzyme technology, inactivation has emerged as the key barrier for enzymes to be fully utilized as biocatalysts. Here, a novel strategy is presented for the preservation of the enzymatic activity even after heat treatment by grafting enzymes onto the thermal responsive block copolymer via an activated ester-amine reaction. A new water-soluble activated ester monomer, acrylic polyethylene glycol (PEG) functionalized 3-fluoro-4-hydroxybenzoate is synthesized.
