Purpose: To evaluate safety and characterize anticancer efficacy of hepatic hypoxia-activated intra-arterial therapy (HAIAT) with evofosfamide in a rabbit model.

Experimental Design: VX2-tumor-bearing rabbits were assigned to 4 intra-arterial therapy (IAT) groups (n = 7/group): (i) saline (control); (ii) evofosfamide (Evo); (iii) doxorubicin-lipiodol emulsion followed by embolization with 100-300 μm beads (conventional, cTACE); or (iv) cTACE and evofosfamide (cTACE + Evo). Blood samples were collected pre-IAT and 1, 2, 7, and 14 days post-IAT.

Background: L-phenylalanine mustard (LPAM) has been the standard for use in regional chemotherapy (RC) for unresectable in-transit melanoma. Preclinical data demonstrated that regional temozolomide (TMZ) may be more effective.

Methods: Patients with AJCC Stage IIIB or IIIC extremity melanoma who failed previous LPAM-based RC were treated with TMZ via isolated limb infusion (ILI) according to a modified accelerated titration design.

Non-contact mapping guided cardiac resynchronization therapy for a failing systemic right ventricle.

Europace

October 2007

The Wessex Cardiothoracic Unit, Division of Clinical Electrophysiology, Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust, Southampton General Hospital, Southampton SO16 6YD, Hampshire, UK.

Aims: Progressive systemic right ventricular (sRV) dysfunction, atrial and ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death are well-recognized late sequelae of atrial redirection surgery in which the right ventricle is left connected to the systemic circulation. Although cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) poses an attractive therapeutic option, little is known about indications, patient selection, and technical aspects of best lead placement.

Methods And Results: We undertook CRT in a 27-year-old female patient post-Mustard correction for d-transposition (d-TGA) with New York Heart Association (NYHA) grade III disability with QRS duration measuring 130 ms.

Objective: To discuss the general and local side-effects and clinic appliance of the intra-arterial chemotherapy, and evaluate the short-time clinic effects of the intra-arterial chemotherapy.

Methods: From February, 1997 to December, 1997 11 patients with oral cancer (9 cases with lingual carcinoma, 2 cases with mouth carcinoma) were received one-shot chemotherapy during operation by NH2 catheterizing of lingual arteries (concentration of 1 mg/ml, dosage of 5 mg), and the other 16 oral cancer patients (13 cases with lingual carcinoma, 3 cases with mouth carcinoma) were only received operation as the control. At the same time, all patients were treated with Chinese flaps or Major pectoris myocutanous flaps homochronously.

Noxious stimulation induces local inflammatory responses in a variety of mammals but these reactions are only faint in avian species. The possibility that endogenous galanin inhibits neurogenic vascular responses in avians was tested in the wing skin of anaesthetized pigeons. Intraarterial infusion of nanomolar concentrations of the specific galanin antagonist M35 dose dependently enhanced the small mustard oil induced increase of skin blood flow measured by means of a Laser Doppler Imager.
