This prospective cohort study is aimed to investigate circadian variations in corneal parameters, focusing on sleep-deprived subjects. Sixty-four healthy individuals (age range: 21-76 years) actively participated in this study, undergoing examinations at least five times within a 24-hour timeframe. The analysis encompassed keratometric parameters of the cornea's front (F) and back (B) surfaces, refractive power in flattest and steepest axes (K1, K2), astigmatism (Astig) and its axis (Axis), aspheric coefficient (Asph), corneal pachymetry values of thinnest corneal thickness (Pachy Min) and corneal thickness in the center of the pupil (Pachy Pupil), volume relative to the 3 and 10 mm corneal diagonal (Vol D3, Vol D10) and surface variance index (ISV).

An outstanding question is how chronic viral infections over decades may contribute to AD pathogenesis. Our HSV-1 reactivation model aims to provide insights to this question.

Background: Aging microglia accumulate lipid droplets (LDs), secrete pro-inflammatory cytokines, and are defective in phagocytosis. The E4 allele of Apolipoprotein E (APOE) is the strongest genetic risk factor for late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) and is associated with increased neuroinflammation and LD accumulation. Here, we aimed to determine if the effects of aging and the E4 allele are synergistic in causing the accumulation of LDs seen in LOAD.

Purpose: To explore the associations between myopia defocus dosage (MDD), aberration coefficients (primary spherical aberration and coma), and axial elongation in children undergoing orthokeratology (ortho-k) with back optic zone diameters (BOZD) of 5 mm and 6 mm over 2 years.
Methods: Data from 80 participants from two ortho-k studies were analyzed: 22 and 58 children wore lenses with 5-mm and 6-mm BOZD, respectively. Four MDD metrics were calculated from corneal topography data over a 5-mm pupil for the 1-month and 24-month visits: the circumferential, flat, steep, and volumetric MDD.

Scientific bodies overseeing UV radiation protection recommend safety limits for exposure to ultraviolet radiation in the workplace based on published peer-reviewed data. To support this goal, a 3D model of the human cornea was used to assess the wavelength dependence of corneal damage induced by UV-C radiation. In the first set of experiments the models were exposed with or without simulated tears; at each wavelength (215-255 nm) cells with DNA dimers and their distribution within the epithelium were measured.
