Caspase family proteases and Toll/interleukin-1 receptor (TIR)-domain proteins have central roles in innate immunity and regulated cell death in humans. We describe a bacterial immune system comprising both a caspase-like protease and a TIR-domain protein. We found that the TIR protein, once it recognizes phage invasion, produces the previously unknown immune signaling molecule adenosine 5'-diphosphate-cyclo[N7:1'']-ribose (N7-cADPR).

Colon cancer, as a highly prevalent malignant tumor globally, poses a significant threat to human health. In recent years, ferroptosis and cuproptosis, as two novel forms of cell death, have attracted widespread attention for their potential roles in the development and treatment of colon cancer. However, the investigation into the subtypes and their impact on the survival of colon cancer patients remains understudied.

Pitaya canker disease, caused by , is the primary threat to pitaya cultivation, significantly compromising fruit quality and reducing yield. WRKY transcription factors are essential regulators in plant pathogen recognition and defense mechanisms, yet their specific roles in the development of pitaya canker disease remain largely unexplored. In this study, five genes (, , , , and ) associated with pitaya canker disease were identified through RNA-Seq analysis.

Virulent microbes produce proteins that interact with host cell targets to promote pathogenesis. For example, virulent bacterial pathogens have proteins called effectors that are typically enzymes and are secreted into host cells. To detect and respond to the activities of effectors, diverse phyla of host organisms evolved effector-triggered immunity (ETI).

In this work, we evaluated the anticancer activity of compounds 1 (mononuclear) and 2 (dinuclear) copper(II) coordination compounds derived from the ligand 5-methylsalicylaldehyde 2-furoyl hydrazone (H2L) over MDA-MB-231 Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells, and compared their activities with that of a newly synthesized, protonated, dinuclear analogue of 2 (complex 3). Here, we report the synthesis of compound 3 and it has been characterized in the solid state (X-ray diffraction, FTIR) and in solution (EPR, UV-Vis, ESI) as well as its electrochemical profile. Complexes 1-3 impaired cell viability from 0.
