Reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) is a species of the genus that can cause neoplasia, immunosuppression, and runting-stunting syndrome. To show the clinical relevance of REV is complicated, and requires the demonstration of the virus, REV antibodies, the presence of typical gross and microscopic lesions, and the exclusion of other oncogenic agents in the case of the presence of tumours. Under field conditions, the first tests to be used might be a commercially available REV antibody ELISA or an RT-PCR to detect the REV genome.

Reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) is a retrovirus in poultry that can atrophy immune organs and cause immunosuppression and tumor diseases. Our previous results revealed that, in the spleen of SPF chickens infected with REV-SNV, gga-miR-222b-5p expression was upregulated at 7, 14 and 21 dpi, and MAPK10 expression was downregulated, both of which were negatively correlated, with a targeted relationship between the two at 28, 35 and 42 dpi. To understand and analyze the expression patterns of MAPK10 and gga-miR-222b-5p in infected chickens at different times and in different immune organs, qRT-PCR was used to analyze the spleen, bursa of Fabricius and thymus samples of SPF chickens at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 dpi.

Liang-Ge-San Decoction Ameliorates Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome via Suppressing p38MAPK-NF-κ B Signaling Pathway.

Chin J Integr Med

December 2024

Department of Emergency Medicine, Jinling Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, 210002, China.

Objective: To explore the potential effects and mechanisms of Liang-Ge-San (LGS) for the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) through network pharmacology analysis and to verify LGS activity through biological experiments.

Methods: The key ingredients of LGS and related targets were obtained from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform. ARDS-related targets were selected from GeneCards and DisGeNET databases.

Background: Reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) is an oncogenic immunosuppressive retrovirus that infects different kinds of avian species; posing significant economic losses to the poultry industry worldwide.

Methods: In Egypt, there is an unidentified disease associated with the runting-stunting syndrome with neoplasia, suspected to be REV, that has been continuously monitored in several breeder flocks. To diagnose and analyze REV by cell cultures, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), histopathological investigation, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, and sequencing analysis, 200 blood samples, and 50 tissue specimens were collected.

Inherited human RelB deficiency impairs innate and adaptive immunity to infection.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

September 2024

Laboratory of Human Genetics of Infectious Diseases, Necker Branch, INSERM UMR 1163, Paris 75015, France.

Article Synopsis
  • Two unrelated adults were found to have genetic mutations causing a deficiency in a protein called RelB, leading to impaired immune responses.
  • This deficiency affects their ability to produce certain immune cells and antibodies, resulting in low levels of important T and B cells and impaired immune function.
  • As a result, the patients have an increased risk of infections due to their weakened immune system, and they produce harmful autoantibodies against type I interferons even after receiving stem cell transplants.
