Chronic granulating and granulomatous periodontitis of 250 permanent teeth was treated in children and adolescents aged 7 to 17, surgery had to be resorted to in 44 (18%) cases. Three groups of indications for radical treatment of chronic periodontitis in children were distinguished: difficulties in or impossibility of conservative treatment, inefficacy of conservative treatment, and somatic indications. The conservative and surgical methods together are most often indicated for patients in whom the adverse conditions of treatment (the first group of indications) are associated with an aggravated somatic status. Radical methods of treatment helped attain bone tissue recovery sooner (in 5-6 months) than after conservative therapy alone (in 8-9 months) and completely liquidate chronic foci of odontogenic infection.

Donor-specific antibodies (DSAs) are essential causes of graft rejection in haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT). DSAs are unavoidable for some patients who have no alternative donor. Effective interventions to reduce DSAs are still needed, and the cost of the current therapies is relatively high.

Entangled Illnesses: Embodied Experiences of Managing Multimorbidity.

Sociol Health Illn

February 2025

Tampere Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Tampere University, Tampere, Finland.

Multimorbidity, meaning multiple long-term conditions impacting a person's health, has become a rising societal and public health issue. The article contributes to the sociological study of chronic illness and multimorbidity by analysing how the blurriness of illnesses and entanglement of symptoms in multimorbidity is experienced and negotiated by people with coexisting chronic conditions. Drawing on qualitative interviews with people who live with endometriosis, fibromyalgia or hormonal migraine in Finland, we show how people with multiple chronic conditions distinguish between evolving symptoms based on past embodied experiences to make decisions about how to best manage their health.

A case of severe TBI: Recovery?

Appl Neuropsychol Child

January 2025

Department of Psychology and Neuroscience Center, Brigham Young University, Provo, USA.

Chronic stage neuropsychological assessments of children with severe TBI typically center around a referral question and focus on assessing cognitive, behavioral, and emotional functioning, making differential diagnoses, and planning treatment. When severe TBI-related neurological deficits are subtle and fall outside commonly assessed behavioral indicators, as can happen with theory of mind and social information processing, they can go unobserved and subsequently fail to be assessed. Additionally, should chronic stage cognitive, behavioral, and emotional assessment findings fall within the average to above average range, a child experiencing ongoing significant unassessed severe TBI-related subtle deficits could be mistakenly judged to have "recovered" from their injury; and to be experiencing no significant ongoing residual neurological deficits.

Cell therapy: A beacon of hope in the battle against pulmonary fibrosis.

FASEB J

January 2025

Stem Cell and Biotherapy Technology Research Center, School of Life Science and Technology, Xinxiang Medical University, Xinxiang, China.

Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a chronic and progressive interstitial lung disease characterized by abnormal activation of myofibroblasts and pathological remodeling of the extracellular matrix, with a poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Lung transplantation is currently the only approach that can extend the life expectancy of patients; however, its applicability is severely restricted due to donor shortages and patient-specific limitations. Therefore, the search for novel therapeutic strategies is imperative.

Background: Exogenous Cushing's syndrome, which results from prolonged glucocorticoid treatment, is associated with metabolic abnormalities. Previously, we reported the inhibitory effect of tonsil-derived mesenchymal stem cell conditioned medium (T-MSC CM) on glucocorticoid signal transduction. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic efficacy of T-MSCs in a mouse model of exogenous Cushing's syndrome.
