Versatile applications of cobalt and copper complexes of biopolymeric Schiff base ligands derived from chitosan.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Catalytic Applications Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, School of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Science, Manipal University Jaipur, Dehmi Kalan, Jaipur 303007, Rajasthan, India. Electronic address:

In the present study, biopolymeric Schiff base (SB) ligands were synthesized from chitosan and isatin. Consequently, their earth abundant transition metal complexes of cobalt and copper were synthesized. All compounds were extensively characterized using FTIR and UV spectroscopy, thermo-gravimetric (TG) analysis, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and FESEM (field emission scanning electron microscopy).

Although curcumin is a well-known natural polyphenol with many biological activities, its clinical application has been limited by low aqueous solubility and stability. Therefore, curcumin derivatives have been proposed to overcome these limitations and increase anticancer activity. This study tested curcumin derivatives with modified feruloyl moieties ( and ) and the β-diketo moiety () to better understand their anticancer mechanism against human bladder cancer cells.

Objective: This research investigated the possible shielding properties of BB (Berberrubine) against the harmful auditory effects of cisplatin, preliminarily delving into the underlying mechanisms responsible for this protection.

Methods: HEI-OC1 cell viability was determined using a Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8). The impact of BB on cochlear hair cells was studied through cochlear explants culture.

A soybean protein isolate (SPI)-based hydrogel with controllable properties was prepared under mild conditions using a simple mixing method with dialdehyde sodium alginate (DSA) as an eco-friendly macromolecular crosslinker. DSA was successfully synthesized via periodate oxidation. Analysis of the structure of the SPI/DSA hydrogel indicated that a 3D network was formed between SPI and DSA through dynamic imine and hydrogen bonds.

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic and recurrent digestive tract disease that can lead to significant morbidity and mortality. The pathogenesis of UC is intricately associated with the presence of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Prussian blue (PB), an inorganic nanozyme with potent antioxidant properties, has been extensively applied in the treatment of various inflammatory conditions and tumors.
