To rest or not to rest after sacral colpopexy? Dispelling an old custom in the ERAS time.

Arch Gynecol Obstet

January 2025

Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Fondazione Policlinico Universitario "A. Gemelli", Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Rome, Italy.

Purpose: Despite the advent of the ERAS Program, recovery after urogynecological surgery is still a highly debated topic in clinical practice. The majority of gynecologic surgeons, in fact, continue to advise patients to home rest and to avoid lifting heavy objects after surgery. The aim of the present study was to verify the impact of a moderate-high physical activity and recovery after surgery on anatomical results after LSC, with a 2-year follow-up (FU).

Temporal interference stimulation (TIS) is a new form of transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) that has been proposed as a method for targeted, noninvasive stimulation of deep brain structures. While TIS holds promise for a variety of clinical and nonclinical applications, little data is yet available regarding its effects in humans and its mechanisms of action. To inform the design and safe conduct of experiments involving TIS, researchers require quantitative guidance regarding safe exposure limits and other safety considerations.

Background & Aims: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is the standard treatment for small hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), specifically for tumors <3 cm in size and numbering fewer than three, excluding surgical candidates. Microwave ablation (MWA) is an innovative approach believed to have theoretical benefits over RFA; however, these advantages are yet to be empirically verified. Therefore, we evaluated and compared the effectiveness of MWA and RFA in managing HCC tumors up to 4 cm in size.

Simulating the cardiac valves is one of the most complex tasks in cardiovascular modeling. As fluid-structure interaction simulations are highly computationally demanding, machine-learning techniques can be considered a good alternative. Nevertheless, it is necessary to design many aortic valve geometries to generate a training set.

Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to verify if performance in the 6-min walking test (6MWT) during the preoperative evaluation phase is associated with the development of cardiopulmonary postoperative complications in patients who underwent uniportal VATS (U-VATS) for lung cancer.

Methods: This retrospective, monocentric study included patients submitted to U-VATS anatomical lung resections (March 2022-December 2023). The patients were enrolled in a preoperative rehabilitation program carried out 15 days before surgery.
