The functional significance of the skin's stratum lucidum.

Morphol Embryol (Bucur)

Published: June 1976

The molecular structure of the skin's stratum lucidum, rich in energetic enzymes and SH groups secreted by the granular cells, was shown by histochemical methods. These active extracellular elements represent a functional barrier which ensures the organism-environment exchanges under the impulse and control of nucleic acids. The biological basis of the cutaneous absorption is discussed.
