Background: Diabetic heart disease may eventually lead to heart failure, a leading cause of mortality in diabetic individuals. The lack of effective treatments for diabetes-induced heart failure may result from a failure to address the underlying pathological processes, including chronic, low-grade inflammation. Previous studies have reported that lipoxin A (LXA), known to promote resolution of inflammation, attenuates diabetes-induced atherosclerosis, but its impact on diabetic hearts has not been sought.

Chronic psychological stress is a recognized, yet understudied risk factor for heart disease, with potential sex-specific effects. We investigated whether chronic stress triggers sex-dependent cardiac dysfunction in isolated Wistar rat hearts subjected to ischemia-reperfusion injury. The experimental cohort underwent 1 h of daily restraint stress for 4 wk versus matched controls, followed by euthanasia (sodium pentobarbital) and heart excision for ex vivo perfusion.

Aim: Modified Suanzaoren Decoction (MSZRD) is obtained by improving Suanzaoren Decoction (SZRT), a traditional Chinese herbal prescription that has been used to treat insomnia for more than thousands of years. Our previous study showed that MSZRD can improve the gastrointestinal discomfort related insomnia by regulating Orexin-A. This study is the first study to evaluate the effects and possible mechanisms of MSZRD in mice with insomnia caused by p-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA) combined with multifactor random stimulation.
