Silver nitroprusside complex nanoparticles (AgN NPs) have garnered significant attention for their antimicrobial properties. However, challenges such as toxicity and limited biocompatibility often hinder their practical applications. Therefore, this study introduces a combined approach to fabricating AgN NPs with chitosan (CS), resulting in CS-AgN nanocomposites (CS-AgN NCs) with cytocompatibility.

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are large structures composed of chromatin, histones and granule-derived proteins released extracellularly by neutrophils. They are generally considered to be a part of the antimicrobial defense strategy, preventing the dissemination of pathogens. However, overproduction of NETs or their ineffective clearance can drive various pathologies, many of which are associated with advanced age and involve uncontrolled inflammation, oxidative, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative stress as underlying mechanisms.

A dual-mode detection platform utilizing colorimetric and Raman was developed based on the exponential amplification reaction (EXPAR) strategy and a "core-satellite" structure constructed by bimetallic nanozymes to detect chloramphenicol (CAP). Initially, DNA-gated metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) incorporating cascaded amplification were used to be nanocarriers for the colorimetric and Raman reporter molecules (3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbiphenyl; TMB). Subsequently, assembled DNA served as gatekeepers to create a stimulus-responsive DNA-gated MOF (TMB@DNA/MOF).

Biocides, applied in building materials as antimicrobial protectants, can be leached out by rain, presenting substantial environmental risks as confirmed by studies on aquatic environments. However, these biocides are consistently released throughout the year in a diluted form, posing unique challenges for the prediction of transport, transformation, and ecotoxicity assessment in soil. To address this challenge, we combined COMLEAM, which predicts leaching from facades into the soil, with the FOCUS PELMO pesticide model to predict biocide distribution in soil.

Background: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were obtained from patients across different stages of Parkinson's disease (PD) progression and stimulated ex vivo to develop biomarkers for predicting PD progression.
Method: PBMCs obtained at one time-point from patients with moderate stage PD (>5 years after diagnosis) (n = 30), early stage PD (<5 years after diagnosis) (n = 27), prodromal PD (rapid-eye-movement sleep behavior disorder patients) (n = 14), and healthy controls (HCs) (n = 9) were isolated from whole blood and cryopreserved. Samples were thawed, then pan-monocytes and T-cell populations were isolated from PBMCs and subjected to treatment with vehicle or IFN-γ.
