Twenty years of experience with lesions involving the temporomandibular joint and adjacent structures complex.

Int J Oral Maxillofac Surg

January 2025

Department of Oral Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China; Shanghai Key Laboratory of Stomatology and Shanghai Research Institute of Stomatology, Shanghai, China; National Clinical Research Center of Stomatology, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

With their close anatomical relationship, the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), mandibular ramus, skull base, ear, and infratemporal fossa make up a complex structure that may collectively be referred to as the 'TMJ and adjacent structures complex' (TASC). This study presents the neoplasms that may be encountered in the TASC region and their classification, which may be useful for the surgical treatment. Data of 1022 consecutive patients treated with resection of TASC neoplasms from May 2000 to October 2022 were reviewed.

Background: We report findings from an experimental medicine study of rationally designed prefusion stabilised native-like HIV envelope glycoprotein (Env) immunogens, representative of global circulating strains, delivered by sequential intramuscular injection.

Methods: Healthy adult volunteers were enrolled into one of five groups (A to E) each receiving a different schedule of one of two consensus Env immunogens (ConM SOSIP, ConS UFO, either unmodified or stabilised by chemical cross-linking, followed by a boost with two mosaic Env immunogens (Mos3.1 and Mos3.

Intermediate Control: Unlocking Hitherto Unknown Reactivity and Selectivity in N-Conjugated Allenes and Alkynes.

Acc Chem Res

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Chemistry Institution for Functional Materials, Pusan National University, Busan 46241, Republic of Korea.

ConspectusControlling selectivity through manipulation of reaction intermediates remains one of the most enduring challenges in organic chemistry, providing novel solutions for selective C-C π-bond functionalization. This approach, guided by activation principles, provides an effective method for selective functional group installation, enabling direct synthesis of organic molecules that are inaccessible through conventional pathways. In particular, the selective functionalization of N-conjugated allenes and alkynes has emerged as a promising research focus, driven by advances in controlling reactive intermediates and activation strategies.

Prudent Physician Anger in Patient-Physician Interactions.

Health Care Anal

January 2025

Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care, University of Auckland, Private Bag 92019, Auckland, New Zealand.

This paper questions the conventional wisdom that physicians must suppress anger in response to patient misbehaviour. It distinguishes the emotion of anger from its expression, which leans toward concerned frustration and disappointment for the sake of professionalism in patient care. Drawing on the framework of person-centred health care as a virtue ethic, the paper first suggests four reasons why and when physician anger toward patient behaviour may occasionally be appropriate: the inevitability of sometimes feeling angry, anger as a cognitive and behavioural resource, physician well-being, and potential patient benefit.

Vernacular architecture, optimized over centuries to create comfortable thermal environments using sustainable design strategies and local materials, can offer valuable insights for contemporary eco-friendly architectural design. This research investigates the sustainable design strategies of vernacular architecture in southwest Hubei, focusing on the First Granary of Xuan'en County as a representative case study. Through field investigations of indoor environments, this study explores how traditional architectural practices have addressed the region's complex mountainous terrain and hot, humid climate.
