World Health Organization estimates that 23 million people have a visual acuity of 0.05 or less. For 12-15 million people cataract is the cause of poor visual acuity or blindness and the majority of those afflicted live in Third World countries. It is estimated that in the year 2025 around 40 million people will become blind due to cataract. The therapeutic procedure of choice is surgical removal of the lens. The high success rate of this procedure in highly industrialized countries has been achieved by the constant improvement in technology and operative technique. This, however, does not hold true for Third World countries. The etiology and pathogenesis of cataract are not yet completely understood. This paper reports on the clinical findings and epidemiology of cataract and deals with the physiology and pathology of the lens. The aim of the study was to recognize possible cataractogenic risk factors. A decrease in the blindness rate caused by cataract in Third World countries can best be achieved through prevention.

Purpose: Fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 isoform IIIb (FGFR2b) protein overexpression is an emerging biomarker in gastric cancer and gastroesophageal junction cancer (GC). We assessed FGFR2b protein overexpression prevalence in nearly 3,800 tumor samples as part of the prescreening process for a global phase III study in patients with newly diagnosed advanced or metastatic GC.
Methods: As of June 28, 2024, 3,782 tumor samples from prescreened patients from 37 countries for the phase III FORTITUDE-101 trial (ClinicalTrials.

Evolving environmental conditions due to climate change have brought about changes in agriculture, which is required for human life as both a source of food and income. International trade can act as a buffer against potential negative impacts of climate change on crop yields, but recent years have seen breakdowns in global trade, including export bans to improve domestic food security. For countries that rely heavily on imported food, governments may institute policies to protect their agricultural industry from changes in climate-induced crop yield changes and other countries' potential trade restrictions.

This systematic review describes the available clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for the anesthetic management of trauma and appraises the accessibility and quality of these resources. This review was conducted according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A search was conducted across 8 databases (MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, CABI Digital Library, Global Index Medicus, SciELO, Google Scholar, and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) for guidelines from 2010 to 2023.
