The contractile properties of right ventricular papillary muscles from the hearts of 15 rats which had developed hypertension 6 weeks following renal artery ligation were compared with those from 14 normal litter-mates. In the experimental group, the heart weight-body weight ratio was increased by 39%, while the right ventricular weight-body weight ratio increased 20%. Right ventricular papillary muscles from the hypertensive rats demonstrated increased tension development at the apex of the length-active tension curve (P less than 0 X 0001), elevated maximal rate of tension development (P less than 0 X 001), and increased maximal velocity of contraction at muscle lengths corresponding to both a light preload and at Lmax (P less than 0 X 05). Resting tension and time-to-peak tension in the muscles from the hypertensive group were not significantly different from the normal group. Thus, improved right ventricular performance, in the presence of increased left ventricular afterload, may indicate the existence of a stimulus to increased function in hypertrophied muscle not yet negated by the adverse effects of direct exposure to stress.

In the context of dynamic image-based computational fluid dynamics (DIB-CFD) modeling of cardiac system, the role of sub-valvular apparatus (chordae tendineae and papillary muscles) and the effects of different mitral valve (MV) opening/closure dynamics, have not been systemically determined. To provide a partial filling of this gap, in this study we performed DIB-CFD numerical experiments in the left ventricle, left atrium and aortic root, with the aim of highlighting the influence on the numerical results of two specific modeling scenarios: (i) the presence of the sub-valvular apparatus, consisting of chordae tendineae and papillary muscles; (ii) different MV dynamics models accounting for different use of leaflet reconstruction from imaging. This is performed for one healthy subject and one patient with mitral valve regurgitation.

The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of papillary muscle (PPM) infarction on left atrial and ventricular strain parameters in patients with non-anterior ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NA-STEMI) using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). This retrospective study performed CMR scans on 88 consecutive patients with NA-STEMI (68 males, 65 ± 10.05 years).

This report discusses the case of a 57-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer and gastric cancer, germline CDH1 gene mutation, who presented to the hospital with syncope. Diagnostic workup revealed a mass in the right ventricular outflow tract. Transcatheter biopsy suggested papillary fibroelastoma, which was confirmed with surgical pathology.

Aims: To evaluate the association between transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) and outcomes in patients with significant mitral regurgitation (MR) following acute myocardial infarction (MI), focusing on the aetiology of acute post-MI MR in high-risk surgical patients.
Methods And Results: The International Registry of MitraClip in Acute Mitral Regurgitation following Acute Myocardial Infarction (IREMMI) includes 187 patients with severe MR post-MI managed with TEER. Of these, 176 were included in the analysis, 23 (13%) patients had acute papillary muscle rupture (PMR) and 153 (87%) acute secondary MR.
