Article Abstract

The functional results in 61 patients after supracricoid reconstructive laryngectomy with CHP (28 cases) and CHEP (33 cases) performed in the University ENT Department in Szczecin between 1971-1989 are presented. Satisfactory lower airway protection in about 93% and respiration in the natural way in 83% are obtained. It was impossible to decaniulate 11 patients. The voice was socially sufficient in 89%.

Dysphagia After Partial Horizontal Supracricoid Laryngectomy: A Close Look.

Cureus

June 2024

Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Instituto Português de Oncologia de Coimbra Francisco Gentil, Coimbra, PRT.

Partial horizontal supracricoid laryngectomy (SCPL) with cricohyoidoepiglottopexy (CHEP) is a conservative surgical alternative for laryngeal cancer in the glottic or supraglottic region. Dysphagia and aspiration are frequently reported consequences of this surgery. We describe the case of a 72-year-old male patient diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx (T2N0M0), who underwent SCPL with CHEP reconstruction.

Supracricoid Partial Laryngectomy: Oncological and Functional Outcomes.

Int Arch Otorhinolaryngol

January 2022

Department of Anesthesiology, Surgical, and Emergency Sciences, Head and Neck Surgery Unit, Università degli Studi della Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, Napoli, Italy.

In the present study, we have reviewed the outcomes of patients with supracricoid partial laryngectomy (SCPL) in our institution. Our results show that SCPL is a well-tolerated procedure with generally good functional outcomes for patients with advanced laryngeal cancer.  We analyzed the oncological and functional results of a cohort of 35 patients who had undergone SCPL, and we highlighted the complications, identified the overall and disease-free survivals, demonstrating that the reconstructive laryngectomy guarantees the oncological safety and reproducibility of the oncological results, preserving the laryngeal functions and promoting an improvement in the patient's quality of life, favoring communication and interpersonal relationships.

Purpose: Pignat's partial laryngectomy with crico-hyoido-epiglotto-plasty (CHEPL) is a vertical laryngectomy with resection of the anterior portion of the thyroid cartilage and reconstruction with a wires net and the subhyoid muscles. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate and analyze oncologic and functional outcomes in patients affected by laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and treated with Pignat's partial laryngectomy.

Methods: Seventy patients with cT1-cT3 glottic cancer were surgically treated with Pignat's technique.
