Objectives: Drug-drug interaction studies for hyaluronidase safety assessments have evaluated only animal-derived enzyme preparations. We therefore set out to evaluate whether high-dose administration of two antihistamines, a potent corticosteroid, steroid hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), or salicylic acid would alter the dispersive activity of recombinant human hyaluronidase PH20 (rHuPH20).

Methods: NCr nu/nu mice were pretreated with diphenhydramine, cetirizine, dexamethasone, estrogen, ACTH, salicylic acid, and/or neutral-buffered saline (NBS).

Adjuvant-induced arthritis in rats decreases body weight and muscle mass. Melanocyte stimulating hormone administration to arthritic rats decreases inflammation and skeletal muscle wasting. In this study, we investigate whether activation of melanocortin-4 receptor by RO27-3225 administration is able to prevent the effect of arthritis on the expression of muscle-specific E3 ubiquitin ligases and MyoD in two different muscles, gastrocnemius (a mainly fast type muscle) and soleus (slow type).

Endocrinology of the skin: intradermal neuroimmune network, a new frontier.

J Biol Regul Homeost Agents

September 2016

Immunology Division, Medical School, University of Chieti-Pescara, Chieti, Italy.

Endocrinology systems exert an important effect on vascular function and have direct actions on blood vessels. Estrogens provoke an increase in skin elasticity, epidermal hydration, skin thickness, reduce skin wrinkles and augment the content of collagen and the level of vascularisation. Therefore, there is an intricate cross-talk between skin conditions and stress.

The aim of this study was to assess the effects of supplementation with polyunsaturated fatty acids from different sources on immune regulation and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activation in heat-stressed sheep. The experiment was carried out during the summer 2012. Thirty-two Comisana ewes were divided into 4 groups (8 sheep/group): (1) supplemented with whole flaxseed (FS); (2) supplemented with Ascophyllum nodosum (AG); (3) supplemented with a combination of flaxseed and A.

Objective: To report a case of corticotropin-independent macronodular adrenal hyperplasia (AIMAH) associated with an insulinoma.

Methods: We describe the clinical, radiographic, laboratory, and histopathologic findings of the study patient; review the current protocols for management of AIMAH; and discuss the disease etiology.

Results: A 64-year-old woman with multiple intradermal facial nevi experienced intermittent light-headedness, tremor, and confusion and was found to have a venous plasma glucose concentration of 52 mg/dL.
