Secondary adrenal insufficiency is a life-threatening condition that may arise in the setting of iatrogenic Cushing syndrome. Intra-articular corticosteroid injections (IACs) are a standard treatment for osteoarthritis, and they carry a high risk of secondary central adrenal suppression (SAI). We present the case of a 43-year-old woman who was referred to reproductive endocrinology for evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding with a provisional diagnosis of perimenopause.

Disorders of temporomandibular joint (TMDs) are characterised by a variety of symptoms, including discomfort in the orofacial region, muscle tenderness, restricted jaw motion and noise at the joint. Additional neurological symptoms such as headaches, vertigo, heaviness, and altered vision may also coexist with TMDs. Because prostaglandin production is a critical mediator of inflammatory reaction and is inhibited by corticosteroids, they have anti-inflammatory effects.

One of the practical ways to manage the disease flares of arthritis is using an intra-articular depot formulation of glucocorticoids. Hydrogels, as controllable drug delivery systems, are hydrophilic polymers with distinctive properties, such as remarkable water capacity and biocompatibility. This study aimed to design an injectable thermo-ultrasound-triggered drug carrier based on Pluronic® F-127, hyaluronic acid, and gelatin.

Background: Intra-articular (IA) corticosteroids are regularly used in equine athletes for the control of joint inflammation.

Objectives: The goal of this study was to use an acute synovitis inflammation model to determine the residual effects of IA betamethasone and triamcinolone acetonide on various inflammatory parameters and lameness.

Study Design: Crossover randomised trial.

Glucocorticoids are, besides non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, the most widely used anti-inflammatory medications. Prevalence studies indicate substantial use of both systemic and locally acting agents. A recognised adverse effect of glucocorticoid treatment is adrenal insufficiency, which is highly prevalent based on biochemical testing, but its clinical implications are poorly understood.
