Targeting oncogene-induced cellular plasticity for tumor therapy.

Adv Biotechnol (Singap)

July 2024

MOE Key Laboratory of Gene Function and Regulation, State Key Laboratory of Biocontrol, School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, 510275, Guangdong, China.

Cellular plasticity, the remarkable adaptability of cancer cells to survive under various stress conditions, is a fundamental hallmark that significantly contributes to treatment resistance, tumor metastasis, and disease recurrence. Oncogenes, the driver genes that promote uncontrolled cell proliferation, have long been recognized as key drivers of cellular transformation and tumorigenesis. Paradoxically, accumulating evidence demonstrates that targeting certain oncogenes to inhibit tumor cell proliferation can unexpectedly induce processes like epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), conferring enhanced invasive and metastatic capabilities.

Cloning and functional characterization of sesquiterpene synthase genes from Inonotus obliquus using a Saccharomyces cerevisiae expression system.

World J Microbiol Biotechnol

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Biotechnology for Medicinal Plants of Jiangsu Province, School of Life Sciences, Jiangsu Normal University, Xuzhou, 221116, China.

Inonotus obliquus (Chaga mushroom) is a large medicinal and edible fungus that contains a wealth of bioactive terpenoids. However, the detection of certain low-abundance sesquiterpenoids remains a challenge due to limitations in extraction and analytical techniques. Furthermore, the synthase genes responsible for the biosynthesis of the identified terpenoids have not yet been clearly elucidated.

Our literature review describes the complicated intersection of the physician/surgeon's professional practice and their spouse/domestic partner, acknowledging that the existing literature specific to plastic surgeons is limited. Nevertheless, the broader research of physicians and other surgical fields identifies many risk factors for work-home conflicts, which can negatively impact the surgeon and the spouse. Furthermore, certain studied groups have other unique challenges and considerations, such as women surgeons, residents, and dual-physician couples.

Background: Over 250 million children are developing sub-optimally due to their exposure to early life adversities. While previous studies have examined the effects of nutritional status, psychosocial adversities, and environmental pollutants on children's outcomes, little is known about their interaction and cumulative effects.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the independent, interaction, and cumulative effects of nutritional, psychosocial, and environmental factors on children's cognitive development and mental health in urban and rural India.

: identification and characterization of plant-conserved microRNA in Rafflesiaceae.

Open Life Sci

January 2025

Department of Biology, Pace University, One Pace Plaza, 3rd Floor, New York, 10038, NY, United States of America.

Rafflesiaceae is a family of endangered plants whose members are solely parasitic to the tropical grape vine (Vitaceae). Currently, the genetics of their crosstalk with the host remains unexplored. In this study, we use homology-based approaches to characterize micro-RNAs (miRNAs) expressed by and from published omics data.
