Background: The rising incidence of kidney stones underscores the imperative to devise effective preventive measures. While a robust association between cardiovascular disease (CVD) and kidney stones exists, the current research landscape lacks investigations between cardiovascular health (CVH) and kidney stones. This study aims to explore the association between CVH, assessed by Life's Essential 8 (LE8), and kidney stones, with the role of blood lipids and insulin resistance in this relationship.

Advances and applications in single-cell and spatial genomics.

Sci China Life Sci

December 2024

Biomedical Pioneering Innovation Center (BIOPIC) and School of Life Sciences, Peking University, Beijing, 100871, China.

The applications of single-cell and spatial technologies in recent times have revolutionized the present understanding of cellular states and the cellular heterogeneity inherent in complex biological systems. These advancements offer unprecedented resolution in the examination of the functional genomics of individual cells and their spatial context within tissues. In this review, we have comprehensively discussed the historical development and recent progress in the field of single-cell and spatial genomics.

Background: Cranial defects from trauma, surgery, or congenital conditions require precise reconstruction to restore cranial vault integrity. Autogenous calvarial grafts are preferred for their histocompatibility and biomechanical properties, but their success depends on a well-developed diploic space. Although prior studies have described overall skull thickness development, less is known about how diploic thickness changes through adulthood.

Background: Hip morphology variations, particularly in femoral neck shaft angle (NSA) and iliac wing width (IWW), have been associated with gluteal tendinopathy. However, the biomechanical implications of these morphological differences on gluteal muscle function are not well understood. This study investigates how NSA and IWW influence gluteal muscle forces, moment arms, and estimated tendon loads during walking, aiming to provide insights into the potential biomechanical pathways that may contribute to altered lateral hip loading patterns.
