The urine albumin (Alb)-to-creatinine (Crn) ratio (UACR) is a sensitive and early indicator of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiorenal syndrome. This study developed a portable and wireless electrochemical-sensing platform for the sensitive and accurate determination of UACR. The developed platform consists of a carbon nanotube (CNT)-2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid)(ABTS)-based modified UACR sensor, a miniaturised potentiostat, a cup holder embedded with a magnetic stirrer and a smartphone app.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to prepare a sustained-delivery mucoadhesive-thermosensitive formulation containing poloxamer 338 (P338), poloxamer 188 (P188), and mucoadhesive agents, such as chitosan (CHT) and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), to increase the ophthalmic bioavailability of timolol maleate (TM).

Materials And Methods: Gels were prepared by mixing different amounts of P338, P188, and a mucoadhesive agent in cold isotonic water using a magnetic stirrer. The sol-gel gelation time of the gels was determined using the test tube inversion method.

Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is considered the gold standard technique for flow visualization. However, its cost (at least tens of thousands of dollars) can prove inhibitive in its standard form. This article presents an alternative design, leveraging off-the-shelf and open-source options for each key component involved: camera, laser module, optical components, tracer particles, and analysis software.

The plant is traditionally used for medicinal and food purposes. However, there are limited studies on the bioactivity and cytotoxicity of its seed butter and aril oil. This study aimed to assess the antidiabetic activity and cytotoxicity of seed butter and aril oil, obtained via two different extraction methods, and compare their lipid profiles.

Laser-Assisted Preparation of TiO/Carbon/Ag Nanocomposite for Degradation of Organic Pollutants.

Materials (Basel)

August 2024

Plasma Physics Research Center, Science and Research Branch, Islamic Azad University, Tehran 1477893855, Iran.

The ever-increasing expansion of chemical industries produces a variety of common pollutants, including colors, which become a global and environmental problem. Using a nanocatalyst is one of the effective ways to reduce these organic contaminants. With this in mind, a straightforward and effective method for the production of a novel nanocatalyst based on lignin-derived carbon, titanium dioxide nanoparticles, and Ag particles (TiO/C/Ag) is described.
